List of Federal Unity Colleges – Unity Schools in Nigeria.
What is unity schools meaning in Nigeria? A couple of Nigerians are confused about the concept of unity schools in Nigeria.
The history of unity schools in Nigeria dates back to 1966 under the leadership of the then Nigerian Prime Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa when it was discovered that most of the problems in Government and Parliament were due to mistrust and ignorance of the backgrounds among the people governing the new Nation. The Federal Government decided to establish what was then known as “Inter Regional Secondary Schools” and later called Federal Government Colleges in the old three regions of East, North and West. Now there are unity schools in lagos, unity schools in abuja, and virtually in every of the current 36 states of Nigeria.
Admission into unity schools in Nigeria is by a national common entrance examination conducted by the National Examination Council (NECO). Unity schools fees are subsidised by the federal government of Nigeria.
