FG Intervenes in JAMB Policy Controversy, directs Candidates to write Post Utme in their Schools of First Choice

The federal government has indicated its readiness to adjust, if not completely reverse, the new admission policy into universities and other tertiary institutions by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr. MacJohn Nwaobiala, who gave the hint noted that already, the federal government is presently consulting with stakeholders in order to identify possible adjustments that could be effected to calm frayed nerves.

Nationwide outrage had greeted a policy adopted by JAMB at its 2015 combined policy meeting, in which potential candidates seeking admission in universities with surplus applicants for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations are reassigned to other universities that have lower number of applicants than what they can admit.

Protest started at the University of Lagos when the institution’s authorities announced that only candidates whose names were officially forwarded by JAMB are eligible to participate in the institution’s Post-UTME.
But speaking after he briefed President Muhammadu Buhari about the state of affairs of his ministry in Aso Rock yesterday Nwaobiala said although the decision was jointly taken at a stakeholders’ meeting with parents and other stakeholders in attendance, qualified candidates have, however, been directed to go and write post-UTME examinations in their schools of first choice.

He said, “This JAMB thing has been there. As the policy making body, when these issues were raised, they raised in a stakeholders meeting.

  • thanks federal government. Pls and pls federal government and jamb should also look into unn and other universities who wants to deviate from the cut off mark of 180 giving to all universities or does it mean that the are above the law? on the jamb day many of us at my center had problems with our system (computer) and when we called the attention of the invigilator he told us that our time wasn’t reading at the end my system stop at the same time with those who their system didn’t had such problem. We waited for more than 30 minutes before our system return to the page at the end I scored 197 it doesn’t mean that we were not brilliant but we had no opportunity to finish our subjects because of the above problem. Pls FG and jamb should look into this thanks chroma Registration no. 56093761EA school of choice university of nigeria nsukka choice of course political science
