UNN Secondary School Students bag 2013 LearnAfrica – NECO Excellence Award
Two students from the University of Nigeria Secondary Schools, Idika Uduma Uduma, (Enugu Campus) and Nwagu Chukwuemeka Godwin, (Nsukka Campus) recently received the Learn Africa- NECO Excellence Award as a result of their impressive performances in the June/July 2013 NECO senior secondary certificate examination.
Idika, 17, scored 7Bs and 2Cs to emerge the best candidate in Enugu State, while Nwagu came 3rd behind Dimson Justin Chinonso, a student of Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School, Enugu.
Learn Africa-NECO Excellence Awards was introduced in 2012 by Learn Africa PLC (Formerly Longman Nigeria PLC) to encourage students and teachers at the secondary level. The aim of the award is to underscore the importance of excellence in education, and encourage hardwork, diligent scholarship and healthy competition among students.
In his reaction, Idika said he was very happy with the result, although the examination was very challenging. He attributed his success to hardwork, determination, and dedication to his studies.
He further revealed that he had been offered admission to study Petroleum Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). Idika, the son of Mr Uduma A. Idika, a retired staff of University of Nigeria, Secondary School, Enugu Campus, thanked God for the successes he had granted him so far in his academic pursuit and promised to work harder to attain greater feats.
In her own remarks, the Principal of University of Nigeria Secondary school, Enugu Campus, Mrs C.V. Egwin said she was impressed by the excellent performance of her students, and urged other students to borrow a leaf from Idika and Nwagu’s hardwork. She also commended the members of staff for their relentless effort in bringing the schools to their present academic height.
