The University of Nigeria has won the hosting right for the 5th African Regional Conference of Vice Chancellors and Deans of Science, Engineering and Technology (COVIDSET). The University clinched the hosting right at the last meeting of COVIDSET, which held from 4th – 9th November, 2013 at the University of Botswana.

Following a presentation of the hosting bid of the University of Nigeria by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bartho Okolo at the Conference, the University of Nigeria was unanimously elected as the host for COVIDSET 2015.

COVIDSET is a bi-annual African regional conference organized by the African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANSTI) and UNESCO in partnership with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

It is also a forum designed to provide the important platform for African leaders and policy makers responsible for University training, research and innovation to exchange and debate ideas, build capacity and design concrete action plans for improving the impact of high-level training, research and innovation on African sustainable development and socio-economic transformation.

The last five COVIDSET conferences were held in Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa and Botswana respectively. Over 250 participants attended the conference in Botswana.
