UNN Space Centre Can Produce Device To Track Pipeline Vandals – Director
The Director of the Centre for Basic Space Science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof Chukwemeka Opara, has said that the centre is capable of producing a device to track oil pipeline vandals.
Opara told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka, Enugu State, on Tuesday that the centre had produced car tracking devices, a device that could track kidnappers in their hideout and solar equipment for both the home and office.
“With our car tracking and kidnapper devices, you can locate a stolen car and trace kidnappers in their hideout respectively.
“We use electrical equipment in the centre 24 hours with a solar device developed by us.
“With sponsorship, we can mass produce the solar energy equipment for people to use in their homes and offices,” he said.
The director said the mandate of the centre was to develop scientific research anchored on capacity building to address the technological manpower need of the country.
“We deal mainly with astronomy, in which we watch and monitor what happens in the sun and around it.
“Whatever happens in the sun to a large extent affects activates on the earth where we are living,” he said
The director acknowledged that the Federal Government has been giving subvention to the centre but that the government could not do it alone.
He said the centre was ready to partner with any tier of government and organizations to produce some of the devices.
