President Buhari Nominates 3 UNN Alumni As Ministers

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR), has released the list of ministerial nominees that will serve in his cabinet.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) elected president, who was sworn in on 29 May 2015, submitted the names of 37 nominees to the Senate.

Among the ministerial nominees are three alumni of the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN; Dr. Chris Ngige (OON), Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah and Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige, who hails from Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, obtained a Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (BM.BCH) degree from the University of Nigeria in 1979.

He immediately went into the civil service, serving at the National Assembly and State House clinics at different times. He retired in 1998 as a Deputy Director in the Federal Ministry of Health.

Ngige was the governor of Anambra State from 29 May 2003 to 17 March 2006 under the People Democratic Party (PDP) and was elected Senator for Anambra Central Constituency in April 2011 on the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) platform. He is currently a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu hails from Onicha-Ugbo in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. He is a Law graduate from the University of Nigeria.

Kachikwu has more than 30 years experience in policy- making positions in petroleum industry including; General Counsel/Legal Adviser, Texaco Nigeria and Texaco Overseas Petroleum Co (1984 -1994); General Counsel/Secretary, Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (2001); Executive Director, ExxonMobil Group of Companies (2003). He has been the Executive Vice Chairman/General Counsel, ExxonMobil Companies in Nigeria and Oversight Counsel, ExxonMobil Companies in Africa since 2009.

He is the current Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) and immediate past Vice-Chairman and General Counsel for ExxonMobil in Africa.

Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of African Capital Alliance (ACA), an investment and advisory company. He graduated from the University of Nigeria as a Medical Doctor in 1985. He has an MBA from the prestigious Harvard Business School, Massachusetts, USA and is also a chartered financial analyst.

His journey into the world of finance began in 1988 at Arthur Andersen & Co. [Now KPMG Professional Services WA] where he led project teams as senior consultant and audit senior. He went on to work in the New York and London offices of Goldman Sachs & Co. in the summer of 1993, before moving on to Zephyr Management LP in New York as an investment manager. He became a principal at Capital Zephyr, Johannesburg, South Africa between 1995 and 1997, where he worked with the chief executive to launch a $150 million fund for direct equity investments in post-apartheid South Africa.

Enelamah, who was President and Chief Tournament Director of the Nigerian National Scrabble Club, was awarded national prizes in ICAN examinations.

Having garnered experience in the world’s renowned financial centres of London and New York as well as Johannesburg, he co-founded ACA to promote private sector-led investments in Nigeria and West Africa. African Capital Alliance manages a family of private equity funds with over USD160 million in capital commitments.
