The Department of Mass Communication, University of Nigeria, Nsukka will hold its Jackson Annual Lecture (JAL) series for this year on Thursday, March 28, 2013. The lecture, entitled “Developing Communication and Entrepreneurship for a Knowledge Economy”, will be delivered by Mr. Paul Arinze, General Manager, Public and Government Affairs, Mobil Producing Nigeria, Unltd. The lecture will take place at the Niger Room, CEC, UNN, at 10am prompt.

The Head, Department of Mass Communication, UNN, Dr. Nnanyelugo Okoro, said the lecture is part of the department’s annual culture that nourishes the collaboration between the industry and the academia. He noted that the lecture is in line with the department’s drive to pursue academic excellence, which is a cardinal mission of the UNN. “The lecture series was instituted by the leading school of communication, the Department of Mass Communication, UNN, to promote topical issues and emerging trends in the field of mass communication,” Dr. Okoro stated.

Dr. Okoro expressed hope that the 2013 edition, the 3rd in the lecture series, will sustain a growing tradition of strong advocacy and agenda setting in communication studies.

The lecture will also witness the installation and commissioning of a 30KVA generator donated to the Department of Mass Communication by Mobil Producing Nigeria, Unltd.

The first in the lecture series was held in 2007, and was marked with a grand homecoming of the past graduates of the department, fondly called Jacksonites. Prince Tony Momoh, former Information and Culture minister, delivered the first JAL entitled “Reminiscence and Projections: The Proposals of Men and the Disposals of Men”. The second was held in 2008, with the title “Challenges in Nigerian Advertising”, delivered by the Chief Executive Officer of Zus Bureau, Christopher Doghujde, a frontline advertising practitioner.
