Read the details below and don&#8217;t forget to share your thoughts using the comment box below.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #274e13;\"><\/div>\n<h2 style=\"color: #274e13;\">Senate moves to stop post-UME tests<\/h2>\n<div style=\"color: #274e13; text-align: justify;\">The Senate yesterday has commenced the process of stopping the post University Matriculation Examination (UME) tests being conducted by universities before admitting students that sat for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.<\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #274e13; text-align: justify;\">Following a motion by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (PDP, Bayelsa), Senate mandated its committee on education to investigate the activities of universities on the issue of the conduct of post UME tests.<\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #274e13; text-align: justify;\">In his motion, Lokpobiri said universities have breached the law setting up JAMB which gives the body the sole responsibility of conducting examination for admission into tertiary institutions in the country by subjecting applicants to post UME examination.<\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #274e13; text-align: justify;\">According to him \u201cThe various universities charge fees and subject candidates to series of tests and interviews which most often take several days to conclude. This is at grave cost to parents and guardians and a clear violation of the JAMB Act. Our young children are also subjected to avoidable inconveniences and risks.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #274e13; text-align: justify;\">Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan (ANPP, Yobe North) said the action of universities and other tertiary institutions that conduct the post UME tests is illegal.<\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #274e13; text-align: justify;\">On his part, Senator Ibrahim Gobir said the post UME should not be scrapped because people have lost confidence in the ability of JAMB to conduct credible examination.<\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #274e13; text-align: justify;\">The Senate committee on education is to conduct further legislative action on the matter and report back in four weeks to enable the House take a final decision on the post UME tests.<\/div>\n<div style=\"color:
