{"id":669,"date":"2012-12-10T17:13:24","date_gmt":"2012-12-10T17:13:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unn-edu.info\/?p=669"},"modified":"2012-12-10T17:13:24","modified_gmt":"2012-12-10T17:13:24","slug":"unn-professor-of-neurology-gets-national-merit-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unn-edu.info\/2012\/12\/unn-professor-of-neurology-gets-national-merit-award.html","title":{"rendered":"UNN PROFESSOR OF NEUROLOGY GETS NATIONAL MERIT AWARD"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Professor Samuel\u00a0Ohaegbulam\u00a0Gets National Merit Award<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/unn-edu.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Jonathan-presents-merit-award-to-UNN-professor.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-670 aligncenter\" title=\"Jonathan presents merit award to UNN professor\" src=\"https:\/\/unn-edu.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Jonathan-presents-merit-award-to-UNN-professor.jpg\" alt=\"Jonathan presents merit award to UNN professor\" width=\"367\" height=\"264\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Goodluck Jonathan has presented\u00a0the 2012 Nigerian National Order of Merit Award to Professor Samuel Ohaegbulam (medicine) and Professor Emmanuel Oyeleye (humanities) at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The president said that the purpose of the award is to encourage technological research essential for socio-economic development of the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jonathan also assured the Nigerian National Merit Award (NNMA) of Federal Government continuous support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, the administration was committed to fully supporting the NMMA and its activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prof Samuel Ohaegbulam is a consultant neurosurgeon at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus and director of Memfys neurosurgical hospital Enugu, while\u00a0Prof Emmanuel Oyeleye is with the University of Ibadan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The national order of merit award is the highest and most prestigious honour the nation bestows on its citizens at home and in the Diaspora for proving creative intellectual and academic contribution of national and global significance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The number of recipient of the 33-year-old award which spreads across all areas of human endeavours with the two new awardees has increased to 67, an average of two per year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The limited number of recipient per year according to the president is an indication of the high standard of procedures employed in the selection process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Inducting the recipients, the President urged them to sustain their interest in research and to also remain as sources of inspiration to all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said, \u201cThese recipients are today admitted into this very admirable, respected and distinguished class of Nigerians as 66th and 67th members. By your remarkable achievements, you have made Nigeria proud and once again put our nation on a high global pedestal.
