The Ministry of Education in Nigeria have announced that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates will now start on Monday, 17th August, 2020.<\/p>\n
This was made known in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Ben Bem Goong, today.<\/p>\n
The statement said that secondary schools in the country are to reopen as from Tuesday, 4th August, 2020 for students in exit (SSCE) classes only.<\/p>\n
It read: “The decision to reopen schools was reached after after a virtual meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education, Commissioners of Education in the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), proprietors of private schools, and Chief Executive of Examination bodies.<\/p>\n
“It was agreed that the exit classes should resume immediately in various secondary schools after the Salah break so that they can take their WAEC examinations scheduled to commence August 17.<\/p>\n
“The meeting also resolved that a passionate appeal be made to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and public spirited Nigerians for assistance to schools across the country to enable them fast track the preparations for safe reopening, as agreed”.<\/p>\n
